The Hapless Farmer
The harvest is reaped; the earnest farmer,
What will he gain, what can he garner?
The yield looks good and the prospects rife,
He’s dying to inform this to his wife
He strides to the market, his produce in tow
But alas! Fate strikes a telling blow;
The sum he receives is less than half,
The broker, again – has had the last laugh
Dejected, but powerless, and even enraged,
In the open fields too, he’s a creature caged;
How do I unshackle, begs his helpless mind,
from a system unfair, ugly, and unkind
